Our History
We are a family business which began as Pineloft Furniture Workshop, making free standing, bespoke furniture direct to the public and producing kitchen cabinets for other companies.
One day, one of our customers came into the showroom with a set of kitchen plans and after some persuasion we took on the project and Blackthorn Kitchens was born. Six weeks later we received the first of many thank you cards for the kitchen we produced and we now design, manufacture and install handmade kitchens all over Ireland.
Originally started in an old stone barn on the outskirts of Newry, Blackthorn Kitchens quickly outgrew its workspace and we now have two dedicated premises –The workshop where all cabinetry and woodworking is carried out and the showroom which also has a workshop for painting and finishing.
Today over 70% of our business is repeat or recommendation. Combining customers’ ideas and dreams with our experience ensures customer satisfaction within their budget.
At Blackthorn we specialise in making Kitchens and furniture from solid wood. Our customers have a virtually endless choice of timbers to choose from for example Oak, Ash, Tulipwood, Pine, Iroko and much more. Our furniture and kitchens at Blackthorn are in-frame (unless otherwise specified by the customer) and are polished or painted by hand to customers’ requirements; we use Farrow & Ball Eco Friendly paints which are specifically designed for kitchens, furniture and bathroom cabinets.
Work surfaces can be chosen from a wide range of solid wood, marble, granite or man-made materials to any design. As one of the leading kitchen suppliers Northern Ireland we can offer a vast selection of handles, fittings and accessories to suit customer taste.

Blackthorn and the Environment
At Blackthorn we endeavour to act in an environmentally responsible manner and continually try to lessen our impact on the world we live in; from reducing and recycling our office waste to sourcing as much of our raw materials from environmentally aware companies as possible.
Our timber suppliers produce wood from sustainable and responsibly managed forests; they have
Forest Stewardship Council accreditation (FSC)
Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Scheme (PEFC)
and are committed to increasing the proportion of timber that comes from sustainably managed forests. We use low odour water based lacquers and Farrow & Ball paints which are all Eco Friendly water based paints that comply with the latest EU environmental legislation regarding the VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) content of paints. These top quality paints are also all low in odour and classified as either low or minimal VOC. Our waxes are some of the finest available and do not contain any Toulene (a known carcinogenic that can still be found in many other waxes), so not only are they safer and healthier to use but also safer for the environment and more ecologically friendly.
We believe it’s important to be able to have a beautiful hand crafted kitchen that promotes healthy environmental practices and we recognise that many of our customers feel the same.
